Somewhere between the pitch and the term sheet there is usually a dinner. The default is a restaurant, and restaurants are fine. But a chef-cooked dinner in your own space — the office, the boardroom, the founder’s house — does something a restaurant cannot: it puts the people you are trying to convince inside the thing you have built. This is how that works in Waterloo Region.
Where to hold it
A boardroom with a kitchenette, an open-plan office cleared for the evening, a founder’s home in uptown Waterloo. On-site catering works in all of them; what changes is how much is cooked on site versus finished on site, and the enquiry covers that.
Plated, in courses
An investor or partner dinner is a seated, paced evening. A plated menu — three or four courses, timed to the conversation — suits it best. Family-style works for a warmer, longer table with a smaller group. Both are custom and both are cooked in small batches by Claire, with nearly twenty years of professional kitchens behind the food.
Dietary requirements are the whole point
You are hosting people whose comfort is the objective. Collect requirements in advance — discreetly, through whoever is arranging the evening — and hand them over. The menu is built around them so nobody at the table has to ask about anything.
Service and clean-up
On-site means set-up, plating and clearing down are handled. The office looks like an office again by the time the last car leaves.
Lead time
Advance notice is recommended and these dinners tend to be arranged quickly. Send the date the moment it is in the calendar; the headcount and the menu can follow.
