Ask anyone who has brought a newborn home what helped most and the answer is rarely the blanket. It is the person who turned up with dinner. Meal prep is the version of that gift that lasts for weeks, and it is one of the most common reasons people contact Claire’s Kitchen.
Two ways to do it
In-home meal prep. Claire cooks in the family’s kitchen on a day that suits them, portions everything for the fridge and freezer, labels it and cleans up. The household does not have to think about food for a week or more.
Prepared meals. Cooked out of home and delivered ready to reheat, in family-style or individual portions. Nobody has to be home and awake for it, which in the first weeks is not nothing.
Built for one-handed eating
Menus for new parents are written differently: food that reheats well, holds in the fridge, freezes cleanly and can be eaten with one hand while the other is occupied. Dietary requirements and anything a nursing parent is avoiding go in at the quote stage.
Giving it as a gift
Yes, this is done often. Send the enquiry with your own details, say who it is for and where they are, and describe what you would like to give — a single visit, a couple of weeks of prepared meals, or an ongoing arrangement. The quote comes back to you; the food goes to them. If you would rather they choose the menu, that can be arranged directly with the family once the gift is set up.
Timing
Babies do not arrive on a schedule, so this is one service where flexibility is built in. Get the enquiry in before the due date and the dates are firmed up when they are known.
